Does Need For Speed Stand a Chance?

If you didn’t already know, I’m a big Breaking Bad fan. This March, Aaron Paul aka Jesse Pinkman is going to star in the film adaption of Need for Speed. I love Aaron Paul, and I think it’s great that he isn’t taking too much time to move on, but I’m worried that NFS is going to be a flop.

The Fast and Furious franchise dominates the street racing movie genre. Since 2001, no movie of the same nature has been able to come close to success. The only exceptions are maybe Cars and Talladega Nights. I don’t think NFS stands a chance in the box office even though it comes out a month before its rival.  Nobody wants a lesser version of the better product. The same way that nobody buys NBA Live before getting 2K, not too many moviegoers are going to take a chance on NFS when they can wait a month to see Fast and Furious 7.
NFS doesn’t have enough star power and hype to win big. Jesse Pinkman and Kid Cudi won’t be enough to save this movie. But what do you think? Are you excited for NFS? Do you think it’s going to fare well or do you think it’s going to flop? Look at the trailer and tell me what you think.

Ride Along Review

I saw Ride Along last Saturday and it was pretty entertaining. It goes without saying that Kevin Hart is the comedic rock star of our generation; he is King Midas right now. You already know what this movie is about so I’m not going to focus on the plot. All you need to know is that this movie is worth it. Ice Cube and Kevin Hart have good onscreen chemistry and there are plenty of cameos that will elicit Woo’s from the audience.

My only complaint is that the characters are a bit dry. Kevin Hart’s girlfriend was extremely one dimensional. Honestly, she could have been on a business trip and not shown up in the film at all and it wouldn’t change a thing. And the story is a little too predictable at times. Heads up: there’s a “twist” in this movie that is so trite that it made me want to shake my head and groan.
Other than that, this movie is hilarious. Two thumbs up; 4 stars. I wouldn’t mind seeing it in theaters again. A sequel is already in the works which shows how successful it already is. After Ride Along, the next film up on Kevin Hart Takeover is About Last Night. Go see Ride Along before you end up being the only one in the theater and you look like the Ostrich on Family Guy.

Breaking Bad and Me

Allow me to rave about Breaking Bad a bit. I know I’m a little late and some of you might call me a “bandwagon” because I started watching the show early this fall but whatever. Here we go. BB was my first real TV drama. I never saw The Wire, The Sopranos, Lost, Mad Men, or Game of Thrones. The closest thing to drama that I’ve seen is The Walking Dead and that show isn’t even close. Don’t get me wrong—it’s entertaining, and it will be remembered, but it’s not in the same playing field as BB or any of the shows that I just mentioned.

I was first introduced to Breaking Bad by a friend of mine. I always knew it was around but I never had the urge to get into it. While everyone was talking about the final season, I was raving about New Girl, a show that I thought one other guy watched but was proven wrong. I guess I’m the only dude around who thinks Zooey Deschanel looks really cute with bangs. Give it chance, guys…Anyways!

I’m not going to lie, BB might have a few dry moments to those who aren’t used to heavy dialogue and character development but I assure you that this show is great! Phenomenal writing, superb acting, and marvelous everything else. If you haven’t seen it before, I suggest you get up on it before everybody spoils it for you.

In the meantime, I guess I’ll get back to New Girl until The Walking Dead comes back.

Year in Review and 2014 Wishlist

Another year is here and it times for another wish list. But before I do that, let’s review last year’s: The link is at the bottom if you haven’t read it.

So did I get what I wished for? Yes and no. Instead of retiring, Kobe signed a two-year contract extension. Detox will come out when The Simpsons end—never. Dubstep is still popular and Chris Tucker is not going to do another Friday. On the plus side, OutKast will reunite at Coachella, Kanye dropped Yeezus, and I don’t see Scott Disick or his kid in the tabloids anymore.

I don’t ask for much this year considering that most of my wishes didn’t come true. I wish for two things right now,: The hype with Miley Cyrus fizzes out and Star Wars Episode VII doesn’t suck.
